Blackwolf Turbo vs Oztent RV

Just a quick review/comparison on the Blackwolf turbo 240 plus and the Oztent RV4.

Both have their positives and negatives, and in the end it is hard to split them but I will try and outline how they are different and then you can make a decision for yourself.

Blackwolf 240 plus

Oztent RV4

Lots of room inside the main part of the tent, floor space wise Considerably less floor space
Room to stand up inside the tent Can’t quite stand up fully upright
Can fit in the tray of a ute easily (and possibly the back of any car with a reasonable boot, if not should fit in the back seat too) Can only be stored on the roof racks, or in a trailer
Awning sides and front is not canvas like the rest of the tent and only opens at the front. Also less taught then the oztent (considering adding a couple of short spreader bars to help this out) Awning made out of canvas, has fly screens and entrances on all three sides. Has more support bars and is more solid
Takes slightly longer to put up and take down (although still rather easy) Goes up and down faster (very easy)
Has second fly standard Does not come with second fly, only one layer of canvas standard but fly can be purchased separately
Can’t be added to in terms of more rooms Can add a tagalong tent if need be
Is perhaps 15% cheaper? (as we used them) Is perhaps 15% more expensive

Both tents were very sturdy, with no issues standing up to the 30knots, gusting to 50 knot winds! We heard the Velcro a few times and the occasionally clinking sound as zips or what not moved about but structurally we didn’t have an issue. We had a tarp over our tents so it is a little hard to comment on the waterproof properties of the tents. However my awning stuck out the front of the tent and we *think* we had a light shower the last night after we had taken down the tarp. Neither of us noticed any water in out tents at any stage.

We both wished there were more peg down points on the bodies of the tents (and some peg down points for the awning on the ozent) so that we could get the bases tighter. Not to say this was a huge problem but it would have been nice to not have a couple of wrinkles in the bases of the tent floors.

Overall we were both happy with our tents, and it is really hard to split them to say which is better. If you want supreme ease of set up/pack down and a fantastic awning area, and don’t mind putting the tent on the roof racks, get the oztent. If you prefer a little more room inside, and want to be able to put the tent anywhere but the roof but don’t mind the few extra minutes setting up or the lesser awning the blackwolf is for you!
